Stress Management Techniques
- Sleep routine. This is crucial. If you don't get enough sleep, your body will produce more stress hormones and eventually potentially cause chronic stress. As a result, your eating pattern will suffer, and it can quickly snowball into burnout.
- Rest and Relax. One of the best stress management techniques around is pretty simple: rest up. Now, how you rest is crucial here. Binge-watching Netflix while stuffing your face with popcorn is going to have the opposite effect. Taking a hot bath, reading a book or simply allowing yourself to have a longer time in the bed and sleep it all out will be great ways to manage your stress.
- Eat. Not just anything, but rather a good balance of nutritious food rich in protein, healthy fats and quality carbohydrates. Avoid fast food, too many caffeinated drinks and too much sugar.
- Regular exercise . If an injury is acquired during training, it may feel counterproductive to exercise. However, as we mentioned earlier, there are stress-relieving benefits of some types of exercise. Aerobic activity has been shown to help your body release endorphins. These hormones will lift your mood and manage your pain . So while you might not want to hit the barbell hard, taking a walk or a run will have stress-releasing benefits.
- Switch off. Spend 15 minutes every day to be with yourself. Turn off your phone, tablet, laptop, TV and all else, complete a breathing relaxation or go for a walk in the sun, or listen to your favourite music.
- Spend time with family, friends and hobbies. These are meant to be activities that bring you joy. Remind yourself to practice them so your positivity pot is refilled regularly
